Shongweni Dam

Spirit of Adventure has been operating from this beautiful venue since 1994. It is the location where Spirit of Adventure held its first Leadership course and has had approximately 80 000 learners passing through these courses since it's beginning.

Shongweni Dam & Game Reserve is only a 40 min drive from the Durban and Pietermaritzburg city centres. The reserve is home to a variety of wild animals such as rhino, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and different species of antelope. This tranquil reserve setting becomes home away from home to those attending the courses and offers an exceptional venue for Outdoor Leadership Activities.

From this venue, Spirit of Adventure can offer a wide variety of activities. These include Rock climbing, Abseiling/Rap Jumping, a wide range of water activities as well as some brilliant obstacle courses, leadership exercises and a high ropes course. Our courses are designed to have an emphasis on leadership, teambuilding or personal development, however we do pride ourselves on the fact that we can offer your learners a tailor made course, specific to their needs. From Pre-Primary to Tertiary, Spirit of Adventure is able to provide a unique experience to each year of a learners schooling career. In other words one school can send every Grade to Shongweni Dam and not get bored!

Our campsite has accommodation for up to 120 learners in cabins and private accommodation for accompanying teachers. The accommodation provided is rustic, but comfortable and offers a genuine 'bush' experience for those sleeping over. Learners are given the opportunity of preparing their dinner on a campfire before embarking on one of our many exciting night activities. Our campsite is guarded 24 hours a day by trained security guards.
